Raymond Franklin Broom, 93, entered into rest on Thursday, December 12, 2013.
Raymond was born on September 19, 1920 in Rome, Georgia. He attended Centerville United Methodist Church. With courage and commitment, Raymond served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He retired from Robins Air Force Base where he dedicated many years of faithful service as an Electronics Work-Lead Inspector. He also served with the Warner Robins Police Department Reserves for thirty five years. A tireless community servant, Raymond was a faithful Master Mason 32nd degree, for fifty plus years, and a member of Valley of Macon, Scottish Rite and Al Sihah Shrine Temple for twenty five plus years. As a Shriner he loved parading and performing as a Shrine Clown, known to all as "Boom Boom". His devoted wife, Betty Kight Broom; infant son, Raymond Henry Broom; parents, Raymond William Broom and Gertrude Dewberry Broom; and siblings, Clyde Broom and Ercie Adams, all preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving children, Raymond Keel Broom (Sharon), Kathleen; Otis Franklin Broom (Jeanie), Thomaston; Russell Gregory Broom (Shelia), Byron; William Randall Broom (Ann), Warner Robins; Pamela Powell (Bo), Knoxville, Tennessee; Calvin Lee Broom (Sarah), Alpharetta; siblings, William "Billy" Broom (Sarah), Cartersville; Tommy Broom (Juanita), Athens; Ann Broom, Mauldin, South Carolina; Jeanette Rogers, Gainesville; thirteen grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 15, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Centerville United Methodist Church with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests that donations be given to Shriner's Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29605.
