Rembert "R.D." Owens, 82, entered into rest on Thursday, April 29, 2010.
Mr. Owens was born on May 2, 1927, in Rome, Georgia, and has lived in middle Georgia for most of his life. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army having served in World War II. He was a Carpentry Supervisor in Civil Engineering for thirty-eight years and served in civil service in Vietnam. He later retired from Robins Air Force Base. "R.D." played in the Robins Air Force Base Bombers State Softball Championship in 1963, enjoyed coaching softball, and loved fishing and music. He was a member of Hardison Baptist Church. His son, Michael Owens, and parents, Henry Owens and Cora Woods Owens, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Sara Ruth Henderson Owens; sons, Ronnie (Kim) Owens, Macon, Marvin (Dixie) Owens, Byron, Curtis (Janice) Owens, Fort Valley, and Steve (Sonya) Owens, Byron; daughter, Karen (Lindsey) Poole, Fort Valley; brothers, Ralph Owens and Donald Owens, both of Rome; sisters, Shirley Perren, Smyrna, and Elise Quinn, Rome; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, April 30, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, Reverend Heath Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
