Reverend David Grant Wilkins was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven on the morning of Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
Born on October 24, 1939, he was the son of the late Willie Grant Wilkins and Dorothy Marie Hutsler Wilkins. Originally from East St. Louis, Illinois, David relocated to Warner Robins where he worked at Robins Air Force Base for 34 years before retiring. David’s life centered on serving his Lord. He exemplified the Christian life and did all that he did for the glory of God. He loved the Lord with every fiber of his being and taught his children by example how to live a Godly life. Before pastoring New Faith Baptist Church for 33 years, he traveled with his family singing Southern Gospel music as The Wilkins Family. They also held kids’ crusades using puppets like Squeaky the church mouse to reach children with the Gospel of Christ. Over the years, he helped establish several churches including Southside Church of God, Jeffersonville Church of God, and Christian Life Church of God.
He was faithfully married to the love of his life for 63 years, Edith Wilkins. A family man to the core, David adored his children and grandchildren. A jokester at heart, his favorite thing to do was tell “dad jokes,” and he perfected that art long before anyone knew what dad jokes were. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilkins was preceded in death by his son, Marcus Dale Wilkins and brothers, Berton Wilkins and Richard Wilkins.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife Edith Branch Wilkins of Warner Robins; children, Juaneysa Semmler (Alex) of Panama City Beach, Florida, Olan Wilkins (Mallory) of Centerville; daughter-in-law, Carol Wilkins of Fort Valley; grandchildren, Christina Brown (Christopher), Angela Adams (Chris), Melissa Wilkins, Grant Wilkins, Lucie Wilkins and Wren Wilkins; great grandchildren, Makayla Adams, Alexis Adams, Emma Adams, Aubrey Brown, Bailey Kate Brown, Caleb Brown; sister, Cheryl Sanford (Michael) of Dublin, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
