Richard A. Doherty, 75, died Thursday, September 26, 2002, in Atlanta. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Monday, September 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00pm on Sunday, September 29 at McCullough Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service starting at 5pm.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Sacred Heart Building Fund, 250 S. Davis Drive, Warner Robins, 31088.
Mr. Doherty was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, to the late Dennis and Maria Doherty. He served in the United States Air Force for over twenty years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion, and Air Force Sergeant Association. Mr. Doherty was also a member of the USSSA Softball Umpiring Association, and was honored to have been the first umpire inducted into the USSSA Hall of Fame. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty W. Doherty, Warner Robins; son, Rick (Pam) Doherty, Albany, GA; daughter, Janice (David) Whitcomb, Lilburn, GA; sister, Ann Wall, Long Island, NY; brother, Dennis Doherty, San Diego, CA; and five grandchildren, Brendan and Kelly Whitcomb, Lilburn; and Ricky, Cameron, and Shannon Doherty, Albany.
