Richard Lewis "Rick" Van Atta

Richard Lewis Van Atta “Rick” lost his battle with COVID on September 22nd, in his hometown of Warner Robins, Georgia.

Rick was born on February 7, 1956 in Panama City, Florida to Mary Sloan Van Atta and Virgil Van Atta (deceased). He attended Warner Robins High School where he was on the Basketball Team and performed in the Chorus and the notable theatre program, “Follies.” As a teenager, he was very active in the First Baptist Church and was an integral part of their music program. Most recently, he sang in the choir at Central Baptist Church and with the Sons of Jubal. Rick was the oldest of five children and lived many places that the Air Force took the family; including France and his very favorite, Oahu, Hawaii.

Rick received a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. While at GSU, he was a brother of Sigma Pi Fraternity where he served as Treasurer then as Vice-President for the Southeastern Interfraternity Council. He will be best remembered for his wit, his sense of humor, his many talents, and the love for his family and friends. Besides spending time with family and friends, Rick had a passion for singing, traveling, camping and playing golf.

He is survived by his two children: Whitney of Alpharetta, Georgia and Blake of Woodstock, Georgia, as well as his mother Mary, a Warner Robins resident for 50 years now living in Tampa, Florida and siblings Craig, of Warner Robins, Eric of Atlanta, Georgia, Paul-David of Houston, Texas and Michelle of Tampa, Florida.

Please join us as we celebrate Rick’s life on Saturday, July 16th at Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins from 1pm - 3pm in the Family Life Center. This is a time of fellowship for friends and family to gather and remember times shared with Rick.
