It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Richard Marvin Selph, Sr. He passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the age of 71.
Richard was born in Thomaston, GA to the late Marvin and Mary Williams Selph on November 4, 1950 and was of the Baptist faith. Most of his working life was spent at Ashland where he retired as a production supervisor. Richard took all of his responsibilities seriously and did his best to be a good husband, father and provider to his family. He was a constant rock and gave quiet support to them whenever they were in need. Though he was a hard worker, Richard was also a fun-loving prankster who absolutely loved to scare people! You were sure to leave with a smile on your face after spending any amount of time with him.
A longtime member of the Moose Lodge, Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching his favorite shows, “Gold Rush,” “Mountain Men,” Life Below Zero” and “Naked and Afraid.” He was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs (GO DAWGS!) and Atlanta Falcons, as well. Richard had many interests, but the love and attention he gave to his children and grandchildren are proof that family always came first. Richard will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joe Stripling; and his sister, Kathy Sufnar.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 24 years, Debra Selph of Byron; children, Angela Sayers and Amy Taylor (Brett), both of GA, Rick Selph, Jr. (Cindy) of FL, and Shaun Clark (Kristin), Katrina Grimsley (John) and Travis Clark, all of GA; grandchildren, Brittany Webb, Amber Scarborough, Mary McBride, Matthew and Novi Martinez, Trinity Taylor, Summer Rose, Kelly, Jacob and Kaylan Grimsley, and Kyle and Kaleb Taylor; great-grandchildren, Kylee, Georgia and Lily Perkins, Hunter Brooks and Aubree Scarborough; sister, Patricia Williams (Bob) of GA; a host of extended family; and his beloved cat and dog who he treated as his children, Bailey and Dixie.
Visitation with Richard’s family will take place on Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Cleghorn officiating.
