Richard Y. Highsmith, Sr., 75, entered into rest on Friday, December 14, 2012.
Mr. Highsmith was born on September 8, 1937 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Allen Clay Highsmith and Fannie Young Highsmith. He attended Victory Baptist Church. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1954 until 1958. He retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base where he worked as Maintenance Supervisor of Schools. In addition to his parents, his sister, Doris Mason, and brothers, Johnny and Edward Highsmith, also preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife, Betty Storey Highsmith, Byron; children, Cindy Logan (Rick), Fort Valley; Vicki Sorrells, Warner Robins; Richard Y. Highsmith, Jr. (Cindy),
King, North Carolina; Gloria Luersen (Dwayne), Byron; grandchildren, Brandon Hayes (Meagan), Brook Hayes (Kim), Brittany Rankin (Zach), Kristen Beard (Cody), Clayton Luersen; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Lavelle Highsmith (Elsie), Byron.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 15, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral, Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2012 in Society Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations to Victory Baptist Church Building Fund, 243 Marshall Mill Road, Fort Valley, Georgia 31030.
