Robert Allan Steele, CMSgt. USAF (Ret.), 71, died Wednesday, January 08, 2003, in Atlanta, GA. Services with military honors will be held at 2:00p.m. Saturday, January 11 at Central Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 until 9:00p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Joy in the Journey, Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 1647 Watson Blvd., Warner Robins, GA 31093.
CMSgt. Steele was born on July 11,1931, in Quincy, Massachusetts. He was Director of Business Development at Ranhill Technologies after his retirement from the United States Air Force and AFRES. Having served in Vietnam in 1968, he was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor, Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He was a former Superintendent of the NCO Academy at Robins Air Force Base.
CMSgt. Steele served as Warner Robins City Councilman from 1982 until 1990 and was on the Board of Directors for Happy Hour Workshop. He was also a Mason and Little League Coach. He taught ROTC at Warner Robins High School and was a former WRHS Touchdown Club President.
A deacon of Central Baptist Church, he was a member of the Adult Four Sunday School Class, had been a Sunday School Teacher, and held a variety of church offices. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Steele; and brother, Jackie Steele.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Dunlop Steele, Warner Robins; three sons, Robert Allan Steele, Jr. (Barbara), Cincinnati, OH; John Steele (Charlotte), Shreveport, LA; and Daniel Steele (Wanda), Cairo, GA; daughter, Leslie Broxton (Cliff), Kathleen; sister, Joyce Duprey, Weymouth, Mass.; and grandchildren, Sarah, John, Matthew, Clayton, Matthew, Meghan, and Tyler Steele; and Gehrig and Sydney Broxton.
