Robert E. "Bob" Young, 83, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2012.
Bob was born on May 24, 1929 in Macon, Georgia. With pride and honor, he served his country in both the United States Army and Navy during the time of the Korean Conflict. Having worked at Fincher's Barbecue in Macon when he was younger, he became inspired to open his own business in Warner Robins by the name of Young's Barbeque which was located on Davis Drive. He and his wife owned the business from 1957 until 1974. Once closing the barbeque business he was employed by contractors on Robins Air Force Base. Later the two became the owners of Young's Bonding Company. Bob enjoyed worldly travels with family and friends. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, and a former pilot. He enjoyed flying for skydivers. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Sheriffs' Association, Georgia Association of Professional Bondsmen, Houston Lake Country Club, the Dixie Seniors Golf Association, and the NuWay Breakfast Club. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Gwinnett Harper Young; and parents, Zack B. Young and Lucille Cheek Young.
His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring children, Dawn Young, Douglasville, Robin Holcomb (Dr. Steve Holcomb), Kathleen, and Randolph Brazier Holton, III (Tammy), Griffin; grandchildren, Jennifer Hisel (T.J.), Robert Holton (Amanda), Casey Holton, Skyler Holcomb, Rey Holcomb, Stephan Holcomb, Jr. (Tiffany), Heather Holcomb Martin (Brad), and Margaret Baker (Daniel); great-grandchildren, Gracie and Dillon Swain, Robert Holton, Jr., Slade, Sawyer, and Alba Martin, Christina Baker and Hannah and Kayla Brewer; siblings, Zack B.Young, Jr. (Hilda), and Priscilla Young , both of Macon; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Dr. Stephan F. Holcomb, Sr. and Reverend Mike Young will officiate. The family will accept flowers, or donations may be given to the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Home, P.O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, GA 30281.
