On the morning of Thursday, February 8, 2018, Robert E. Taylor, Sr. joined his beloved wife, Delma Mae Taylor in heaven. He was 93 years old.
Mr. Taylor was born in Coalwood, West Virginia on March 22, 1924 to the late Robert William and Zora Alma Smith Taylor. A proud United States Army Veteran, he served his country during World War II where he was wounded in battle while fighting in Italy. He received a Bronze Star as a Combat Infantrymen and the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in battle. Following his military service, Mr. Taylor worked as an Administration Specialist at the Bureau of Reclamation in Denver, CO before become a Security Police Officer in Civil Service. He started as a guard and attained the rank of lieutenant before retiring . He enjoyed being a longtime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars associations.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald Luthor Taylor, Zora Alma (Betty Jean) Morton, Juanita Grace Baer, Arizona Nevada Smith, and John McClellan Taylor.
He leaves his memory behind with his loving sons, Capt. Robert E. Taylor, Jr. (Glenda) of Navarre, Florida and James E. Taylor (Mary Ellen) of Oxford, Michigan; grandchildren, Diana L. Cook and Karey D. Atchley; five great-grandchildren; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 15, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018 in Magnolia Park Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mr. Taylor’s arrangements.
