Robert Herman Van Zante

Robert Van Zante, 90, passed away on the morning of Thursday, July 14, 2016.

Mr. Van Zante was born in Martelle, Iowa to the late Clarence Paul and Carmen Ormsby Van Zante. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Europe during World War II and followed his military career attending photography school and working with Mercury Motors. In 1987, Mr. Van Zante retired from U.S. Civil Service in southern California and later lived in Oregon where was commander of the Gladstone VFW. He was also a former active member with the American Legion, Elks Lodge, and local Senior Center before becoming a full-time "RV'er." Mr. Van Zante met his beautiful wife, Judy, in Perry, Georgia, and married in Fairbanks, Alaska on June 22, 2009. They eventually settled in Summerdale, Alabama. Together, the Van Zante's traveled to 49 states and all across Canada before returning to central Georgia in 2015.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Van Zante was also preceded in death by his sister, Jean Powlesson.

He is survived by his devoted wife of seven years, Judith Walker Selby Van Zante of Warner Robins; stepchildren, Dennis Selby (Pam), Douglas Selby (Joan), Denise Selby, David Selby (Andrea), and Debbie Webb (Jimmy "Al"); 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Cummings Braun; brother, Richard Van Zante; and several adoring nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 17th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 18th at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Paula Hoffman officiating. Following the service, Mr. Van Zante will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
