Robert “Bob” Kelley, 80, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2005. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, at the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 28 at McCullough Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of Houston County, 103 Westridge Avenue, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
Mr. Kelley was born October 12, 1924 to the late Charles and Ella Kelley of Evarts, Kentucky. A resident of Warner Robins since 1942, Mr. Kelley began his career in the early 40’s as an Equipment Engineer at Radio Station WMAZ. In the mid 40’s he took a job as a Radar Repair Specialist at Robins Air Force Base. In the early 50’s he was selected to head up the development of a repair capability for a Bomb-Navigation System installed on B-47 Bombers. It was the most sophisticated and complex electronic equipment in use by the Air Force at that time. The system was known as the K-System and Mr. Kelley’s long and successful association with it earned him the nickname Mr. K-System at Robins.
In the early 60’s Mr. Kelley took a position as a Logistics Management Officer where he served as Program Manager for a variety of airborne equipment. In this position he traveled extensively throughout the United States. Mr. Kelley retired from Robins Air Force Base in November of 1975.
Survivors include, loving and devoted wife of 59 ½ years, Eileen Glidewell Kelley, Warner Robins; four children, Brenda Kelley Bowen (John), Birmingham, AL; Robert Michael Kelley (Paula), Chatsworth, GA; Charles Richard “Rick” Kelley (Wanda), Warner Robins; and Bonnie Kelley Morris (Richard), Houston, TX; sister, Peggy Kelley Jones, Dayton, OH; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
