Robert V. Whitehead

Robert Whitehead, 53, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2006.

Mr. Whitehead was born on May 20, 1953 in Panama Canal Zone, Panama. With loyalty and honor, he served in The United States Air Force from 1973-1993. He retired with the rank of TSgt. and was a helicopter mechanic. After retirement, he continued his career as a helicopter mechanic in Saudi Arabia with the Augusta SPA Royal Saudi Helicopter Company. Robert also worked for ASA at the Macon, Georgia Airport as a maintenance mechanic. A man of many accomplishments, his greatest joy was his loving family and he truly enjoyed time spent with them. In 1989, he overcame a bout with cancer. Robert loved being outdoors, while stationed in Alaska. He enjoyed all water activities including fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, worldwide vacation sailing, and surfing. He learned to scuba dive while he was in Saudi Arabia. He also enjoyed motorcycling and rifling. His parents, Vernon and Elizabeth Towne Whitehead, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine M. Mackowski, Bonaire; children, Mindy Whitehead, Destin, FL; SSgt. Michael Whitehead, Edwards AFB, CA; Pvt. Brian Whitehead, Caserma Ederle, Italy; Ross Mackowski, Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Abigail Whitehead, Panama City, FL; Merrick Laird, Destin, FL; sister, Allison Whitehead Jobin, and brothers, David and Andrew Whitehead.

Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The American Cancer Society 804 Cherry Street Macon, GA, 31201.
