Robert “Dub” Wright, retired craftsman, cabinet builder and Army veteran of World War II, went home to be with the Lord, May 24, 2005 at his home in Warner Robins, surrounded by his wife and children. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2005, at River of Light Church of God with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 until 9 PM Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at McCullough Funeral Home. The family suggests donations be made to Portsbridge Hospice Foundation, 115 Arkwright Landing Macon, Georgia 31210.
Mr. Wright, 82, was born in Wilcox County Georgia, one of eleven children of the late Willis and Jane Hardy Wright. He was retired as manager of the door shop at Warner Robins Supply Company in 1987, after 31 years with the local company. He attended Pitts School and entered the United States Army in 1942 and served in the South Pacific for the duration of the war. He participated in the liberation of the Philippines and was awarded the Philippines Liberation Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with a Bronze star.
Mr. Wright returned to Wilcox County to his bride, Opal Brantley Wright, whom he had married just six months before going off to war. The family moved to Houston County in 1956, where they raised six children at their home on Russell Parkway in Warner Robins. His son-in-law, Herman Wills; grandson, Randy Wright, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Brantley Wright; three sons, Randall Wright (Cheryl), Centerville; Bobby Wright (Evelyn), Warner Robins; Barry Wright, Montgomery, Alabama; three daughters, Linda Wills, Warner Robins; Bonnie Cantrell (David), Griffin; Vickie Murray (Randolph), Alpharetta; one brother, Willis Wright, Centerville; one sister, Mamie Johnson, Columbus; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren.
