Roger K. Alligood, 78, died Thursday, March 6, 2003. Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 9 at Central Baptist Church with interment following in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at McCullough Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers and to honor Roger’s avid love for growing them, the family requests that memorial gifts be given to Central Baptist’s “Joy in the Journey” – a lasting tribute of beauty.
Born in Meigs, Thomas County, GA, Roger was the son of Clyette and Nell Roberts Alligood. His parents, five sisters and brothers, and his first wife, Gladys Willis Alligood, preceded him in death.
Roger helped organize the Montezuma Unit of the Georgia National Guard in the late 1940’s and was a charter officer. A charter member of Central Baptist Church, he was a deacon for 35 years and a charter member of the Joyner Sunday School Class.
Roger was the founder of Allied LP Gas Company of Centerville and Warner Robins, retiring in 1989. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army, having served with the 24th Infantry Division in the Philippines and Occupation Forces in Japan after the war.
Survivors include his wife of twenty years, Doris Robinson Downs Alligood; his children, Ken (and Pam) Alligood, Warner Robins; Denise (and Don) Hauenstein, Portland, OR; Steve (and Theresa) Alligood, Bonaire; Susan (and Fred) Morgan, Macon; Don (and Teresa) Downs, Orlando; and Paula (and Michael) O’Brien, Sanford, FL; four sisters, Annette McCord, Perry; Ouida Snipes, Pelham; Sara Turner, Warner Robins; and Sybil Heard, Byron; grandchildren, Brian, Becky, Lauren and Kelsey Alligood, Warner Robins; Chad Alligood, Perry; Jake Hunt (Melissa), Athens; Amy and Emily Morgan, Macon; Kyle and Scott Hauenstein, Portland, OR; and Don, Amy, Michelle, and Tony Downs (Rebecca), Orlando; and 5 great-grandchildren.
