Growing up on a farm, Roy learned the value of hard work at an early age. After attending Berrien County High School, he joined the United States Army in June 1963, proudly serving as a lineman. Following his military service, Roy embarked on an impressive career at Robins Air Force Base, where he worked for over 40 years. Roy was a man of many talents and interests. An accomplished bass guitar player and singer, he shared his love of music by performing in numerous bands and entertaining at the VFW and American Legion. He also took great pride in restoring his cherished 1949 Allis Chalmers tractor and 1972 International Scout, hobbies that showcased his patience and craftsmanship. Beyond his love for music and restoration projects, Roy found joy in deer hunting, fishing, and the companionship of many beloved dogs over the years.

Roy was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Pam, for 31 years until her passing in 2006. His unwavering commitment to his family and the strength he demonstrated after her loss remain an enduring testament to his character. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Elry and Ruth McLendon; his sisters, Hilma Hamm and Carolyn Broadwell; and his brother, Raymond McLendon.
