Ruby Barksdale entered into rest on Friday, October 6, 2017. She was 103 years of age.
Mrs. Barksdale was born in Anderson, South Carolina to the late Varton and Ruby Hunnicutt Osigian and was a graduate of Tallulah Falls High School and Piedmont College. She taught school for a short time in Whiteover, Georgia and later moved to Alpena, Michigan where her husband Reverend Robert Barksdale served the Congregational Church for twenty-nine years. Mrs. Barksdale taught the youth of that church for twenty-five years. Upon his retirement from the church, she and Reverend Barksdale moved to Warner Robins in 1972, where her brother was the owner of Penny Pincher’s Store. Mrs. Barksdale helped her brother in that store for many happy years. She became a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and her husband often filled the pulpit as a visiting pastor. She was a past member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and helped with their annual used book sale.
Her parents and husband, Reverend Robert Barksdale preceded in her death.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her son, Malcolm Barksdale (Naomi) of San Diego, California, Ari Ralston (Dan Avedon) of Los Angeles, California; sister-in-law, Eleanor Barksdale of Sandersville; nieces, Barbara Osigian Horton (Terry) of Warner Robins, Mike Osigian Goggins of Athens, Georgia, Kimberly Tyson (Kenneth) of Macon, Mary Kay Veal (Sandy) of Tennille, Georgia and nephew, Sonny Barksdale (Brownie) of Sanderville, Georgia.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Immediately following the service there will be a reception and time of visitation at the church. Afterwards, there will be a private family graveside at Magnolia Park Cemetery.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Ruby Barksdale to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 303 Mary Lane, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mrs. Barksdale’s arrangements.
