Sallie Diane Fitts

April 28, 1956 — April 25, 2024

Kathleen

Sallie Diane Fitts, 67, returned home to the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Sallie was born on April 28, 1956, in Reform, Alabama to the late James and Mary Mullis. In her professional life, she was a Registered Nurse for 41 years, last working for Houston Medical Center. As a certified dialysis nurse, she left an indelible mark on the nursing world where she trained and mentored many nurses along the way. She passed her passion for nursing on to two of her daughters, who also became nurses. Sallie’s selflessness carried over to her personal life where her family described her as close to a saint. She deeply loved her children and grandchildren, who knew her as Nana and Great Nana, and was a loving and devoted wife.

A faithful member of Centerpoint Church, Sallie had a true servant’s heart; she was always giving and doing for others whenever she saw a need. In her free time, she could be found out in nature doing a variety of exciting activities such as fishing, jeeping, camping, and horseback riding. Her sweet spirit will be deeply missed by those she held most dear.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her husband of 27 years, Richard Fitts; children, Charity Poole (Ken) of Eastman, Rachel LaPlante (Ron) of Michigan, Ellen Shipman (Clint) of Byron; grandchildren, Chris Poole (Beth) of Perry, Ron LaPlante (Brianna) of Michigan, Damian LaPlante (Dezerae) of Michigan, Kaylee LaPlante of Michigan, Jessie Mantooth of Byron, and Wyatt Shipman of Byron; great-grandchildren, Charlie Michelle Poole, Jasper Mantooth, Lux LaPlante, Aiden LaPlante, Peter LaPlante, Isabella LaPlante, and Noah LaPlante; and sister, Glenda Jones (Ted) of Yatesville.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.  Afterward, Sallie will be laid to rest in Andersonville National Cemetery.
