Sandra Wherry

Sandra Lynn Wherry, 81, entered into rest on Monday, May 1, 2023.

Sandra was born on August 20, 1941, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She went to school in Southern California and earned a degree in Home Economics from Cal Poly Tech. From there, the family moved to Oregon where she was a homemaker for a time. She later relocated to Southern California and earned her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. She then became an instructor at Long Beach State before teaching at Butte College until she retired. While at Butte College, she initiated a grant to start an early childhood development program and eventually, establishing the Butte College Child Development Center. She was an active member of the American Association of University Women. Sandra loved children, especially preschool children. She was kind and loved to help people if she was able. She loved her family dearly and was the most fun grandma.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Wherry and Marguerite O’Brien, son, Jason O’Brien and sister, Sharen Pyle.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Shari Wallander of Bonaire, Georgia and Jon Wallander of Chico, California; grandchildren, Korey O’Brien, Katelyn Rose, Jon Austin Rose, Nick Wallander (Nicoly), Madeline Wallander, Sarah Wallander, Emma Wallander, and Shana O’Brien; and siblings, Steve Wherry and Jeff Wherry.
