Sara Alligood Turner

Sara Turner, 85, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2006. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5, in Pelham City Cemetery, Pelham, Georgia. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 277 Martin Luther King DR, Macon, GA 31201-3498 or to the Autism Society of America, 7910 Woodmont AVE, Bethesda, MD 20814-3067.

Mrs. Turner was born in Thomas County, GA on May 5, 1921. She lived many years in and around Meigs and Pelham, GA, and in Albany before moving to Warner Robins in 1973. A life-long Baptist, she was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Warner Robins at the time of her death. She was an insurance agent and retired from Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, where she also was a pink lady volunteer. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Pelham and the Pilot Club in Albany. Mrs. Turner was a loving, Christian wife, mother, and grandmother. Her husband, L. C. Turner, her parents, Clyette Alligood and Nellie Roberts Alligood, and siblings, Wilma Osteen, Sybil Heard, Roger Alligood, Lois Savelle, Owen Alligood, Aubrey Alligood, and Searcy Alligood, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Jan Lowery, Warner Robins; Dianne (Jim) Carter, Warner Robins; grandchildren, Marina McMickle, Albany; and Stacey “Mimi” (Mario) Herrera, Macon. In addition, she was a beloved Granny to five great- grandchildren, and is survived by sisters, Annette McCord, Perry; and Ouida Snipes, Pelham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
