Sarah Helen Willis went home to celebrate new life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 4, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel A. Willis, Jr. of Warner Robins.
Mrs. Willis was born to Hilda and Sallie Lee Pilcher of Americus, Georgia on January 15, 1934. She attended Americus High School, worked for Rich’s as a Penelope Penn personal shopper, and later worked for Seaboard Coastline Railroad as a secretary. Mrs. Willis took some time off from working to raise her beautiful family. She then filled the position of secretary for her husband, Joel A. Willis, Jr., attorney at law. Mrs. Willis’s last position was as a federal employee at Robins Air Force Base.
Mrs. Willis loved working in the yard, creating new flowerbeds, and was crazy about playing board games with her family. She loved football, her oldest son played in high school, and she took pride in that and all the sports he played. Mrs. Willis’ youngest son was always found discussing their interpretation of scripture after a rousing challenge of a board game. She loved playing on the church softball team with her daughter as well as “picking out” tunes to play on the piano. Mrs. Willis enjoyed singing in the church choir at First Baptist Church of Warner Robins where she taught the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday school class for over twenty years and was always studying bible doctrine. Mrs. Willis was a devout student of Reverend Thieme of Houston, Texas. She would say her greatest accomplishment was that she quietly raised three children on bible doctrine and imparting to them the how to live your life as a confident Christian.
She is survived by her sons, Benjamin L. Strange of Sotern, Germany and Gary W. Strange of Ft. Valley, Georgia; daughter, Marilyn S. Welch of Jackson, Georgia; two brothers, Wendall Wayne Pilcher of Winterville, Georgia, and Dr. Bobby Lamar Pilcher of Macon, Georgia; a sister, Virginia Elaine Goggans of Bonaire, Georgia; grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, February 9, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of McCullough. After the service, Mrs. Willis will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Following interment, the family will be gathering at The Farmhouse located behind McCullough Funeral Home.
