Isidoro Leon, III, 99, passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of Thursday, August 11, 2022.
Mr. Leon was born on March 3, 1923 in Ponce, Puerto Rico to the late Isidoro II and Rosa Munoz Leon. A true patriot, he proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving during World War II as well, as the Korea and Vietnam conflicts. His valiant military service earned him a Purple Heart. In later years, he remained a proud member of The Military Society. A quiet and tranquil individual, Mr. Leon loved to read and he enjoyed watching television. He did enjoy traveling and experiencing new places. But his most favorite thing was gathering with his family and friends. He was totally devoted to his family. Mr. Leon was a member of Central Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as ten brothers and sisters.
His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring wife of twenty-two years, Josefina Cruz Leon; his children, Nelda Nowels (Jerry) of Orlando, Florida, Diana DeGroot (Anthony) of The Villages, Florida, and Linda Sanders (Ron) of Columbus, Georgia; his step-children, Aida Bond (Weyman) of Warner Robins, Georgia and Miriam Collins of Columbus, Georgia; his nephew, German Olivero (Olga) of Puerto Rico; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Josefina’s nephew, Jose Alberto Lebron who served as one of Mr. Leon’s caregivers over the past eight months. Mr. Leon grew very attached to Jose, and the family is grateful for the love and care that he showed to his uncle.
Visitation with Mr. Leon’s family will be Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service celebrating his life will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. On Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., Mr. Leon will be laid to rest in Park Hill Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Isidoro Leon, III to Alzheimer’s Association; 886 Mulberry Street; Macon, Georgia 31201.
