Shelby Jean Mixon was born the oldest of seven children on January 26, 1942 in Pitts, GA. She left this earthly realm on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 after a brief illness. She was 80 years old.
Shelby retired from Robins Air Force Base with over 25 years of service. She spent many years working at the base hospital where she was a medical transcriptionist before joining the U2 Command Group. Shelby later retired with the BioMed Group at Robins.
Shelby Jean - or “Coco,” as she was known to her family and church friends - was a beloved member of Sandy Valley Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and Children’s Church every Sunday.
She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Our mother did not wear a great deal of jewelry, but the most precious jewels she had were the arms of her grandchildren around her neck. Our mother was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, especially over the holidays.
It would be wrong to say that our mother lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was determined. She stayed strong during her last few days with us, and through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no “quit” in our mother. Just because she is no longer here, it does not mean she lost her fight.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as a sister and two brothers. Shelby is survived by her three children, Laramie Mixon, Angie Crouch (Mark) and Tina Foreman (Chad); her grandchildren, Devin Foreman (Melissa), Lucy Foreman and Cole Crouch; and her great-granddaughter, Mila Foreman. She is also survived by her sister, Loretta Hatton (Donnie); brothers, Roy Pulliam (Beth) and Anthony Pulliam; sister-in-law, Barbara Pulliam; brother-in-law, John Booher; in addition to many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation with Shelby’s family will take place on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Sandy Valley Baptist Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Phil Bryant officiating. Shelby will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens following the service.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Shelby Mixon to Sandy Valley Baptist Church, 1124 S. Houston Lake Rd., Warner Robins, GA 31088.
