On the afternoon of Saturday, April 21, 2018, Shirley M. Gardzelewski, 76, passed away at Regency Hospital.
Shirley was born on July 13, 1941 in Meggs County, Ohio to the late Homer E. and Mary Bogard. She grew up in Theodore, Alabama where she graduated from Theodore High School. Later, Shirley and her family moved to Warner Robins where she began her 40-year career at Robins Air Force Base. She first worked as a secretary and eventually as a project manager on the C-130 Gunships. Following her retirement, Shirley continued to work for contractors supporting the work on the C-130s for seven more years. In her spare time, she enjoyed being outdoors fishing and playing with her children and grandchildren. Shirley had a special love for children and dogs, especially dachshunds. Her husband, Phillip Gardzelewski, Sr. preceded her in death.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Phillip Gardzelewski, II (Paula) of Magnolia, Texas, Scott M. Gardzelewski (Susan) of Macon, Damon Gardzelewski (Liane) of Macon; 10 grandchildren, and sisters, Sandra Walker (Bob) of Hohenwald, Tennessee and Patricia Joiner of Mineral Bluff, Georgia.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2018 in the Chapel of McCullough. Following the service, Shirley will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Shirley M. Gardzelewski to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
