Albert E. Lucas, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 under the care of Hospice at Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Albert was born on June 13, 1958 in Dover, Delaware to the late Donald E. and Mary Ellen Hartman Lucas. He served our country joining the United States Air Force Reserve in 1981 as a C-5 Loadmaster. Albert had many reserve assignments including Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, at the Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command where he worked Current Operations. He retired in March of 2014 with 33 years. During Albert's tenure, he served in several Operations including Desert Shield/Storm, Noble Eagle, and Enduring Iraqi Freedom. In his flying world, he was known to many as "Popeye" and "Big Al."
He was a kind soul always with a smile, and loved his family and friends unconditionally. Albert was baptized in September 2014 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he and Connie became members. He was diagnosed with esophageal junction gastric cancer in 2014 and was a survivor until 2017 when the gastric cancer reoccurred.
Albert's memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Connie Lucas; three beautiful daughters, Lisa Jean Warren (Chuck), Terri Lynn Spies (Alex), and Heather Renee Cookson (Jonathan). He is known as PAPA to nine grandchildren, Miranda, Blake, Logan, Raegan, Waylon, Lexi, Nolan, Harrison and Taylor; and many nieces and nephews. Albert's siblings include, Wilsa Coker, Donald Lucas (Kandi), Howard Lucas (Lisa), David Lucas, and Helen Williams (Tom); and Aunt Nancy Lucas Forrester.
A Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21st in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Mr. Lucas will be laid to rest in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Albert E. Lucas to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1444 Remount Road, N. Charleston, SC 29406 or to the Tennessee Fisher House (tennesseefisherhouse.org), a non-profit organization offering shelter and support during medical crisis for Armed Forces families.
