It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Charles L. Messer. He died on the morning of Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the age of 82.
Charles was born in Pacolet Mills, SC on July 1, 1940, the son of the late Rufus Messer and Ethel Mae Messer Forrester. He graduated from Barnes County High School and went on to proudly enlist in the United States Air Force. Charles served his country in the military for 23 years in the field of Telecommunications Operations, with some of those years being overseas. He retired in 1983 having attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. In his retirement years, Charles enjoyed working alongside his son, Charles, at the shop in the country.
When Charles wasn’t working, you could find him collecting coins and spending time with his family; he looked forward to traveling in the RV whenever the time allowed. Charles also loved being on the water and was the best storyteller. His ever-smiling face made the adventures of his stories that much better.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Gloria del Pilar Arminio Cea Messer.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Charles E. Messer (Vanessa) and Christina M. O’Brien (Mike), both of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Tia Messer, Kayla Shumway (Chris), Tyler Messer and Torrey Messer (Erin); great-grandchildren, Joseph Messer, Elliana Messer Ostrow, Levi Messer, John Tyler Messer, Joshua Messer, Isaac Messer and William Shumway; and sisters, Lucille Garrett and Louann Duckett.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Charles will be laid to rest alongside his wife in Magnolia Park Mausoleum after the service.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Charles to the American Heart Association, 5962 Zebulon Road, PMB #359, Macon, GA 31210.
