Gerald Grant Martin, 89, of Centerville, GA, passed away on May 24, 2024. He was born on September 19, 1934, in Talladega, AL.
Grant, known to his loved ones as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Anita L. "Lynne" Martin, sons, Tony (Deb) Martin of Lawrenceville, GA, Phil (Nina) Martin of Hawkinsville, GA, and Russ (Connie) Martin of Merritt Island, FL, along with grandchildren, Ashley (Shawn) Brech of Dacula, GA, Allison Martin of Norcross, GA, Chandler Martin of Marietta, GA, and Alexis Martin of Merritt Island, FL, and great-grandchildren, Abigail Brech and Andrew Brech of Dacula, GA. He is also survived by his brother, Donald (Brenda) Martin of Simpsonville, SC, and sister, Linda George of Greenville, GA, as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Chester Martin, mother, Minnie Lee Chandler Martin, stepmother, Jeanette Martin, brother, Hugh Eugene Martin, and sister, Brenda Pickrell.
Grant served in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1975, with assignments taking him across the globe including Korea, Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand, as well as various states in the US. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. Following his military service, he worked as a restaurant manager and later as a crew coordinator for Zantop and Hawaiian Airlines at Robins AFB, GA.
Grant attended Talladega High School and worshiped at the Robins AFB Chapel. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf and traveling.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, SMSgt. Gerald G. Martin, USAF (Ret.) will be laid to rest in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
