Harry H. Burkhardt, 81, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 10, 2012.
Harry was born on November 2, 1930 in Woodbury, Gloucester County, New Jersey to the late Herman and Christina Burkhardt. He was a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church. With pride and honor, Harry served his country in the United States Air Force retiring with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He served twenty-eight years on active duty, mostly in the Strategic Air Command (SAC). Following military retirement, Harry worked in Civil Service at the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center (WRALC) for almost twenty-two years, accumulating just under fifty years of total combined federal service.
In addition to many job related courses and schools, Harry pursued off-duty education obtaining a Bachelor's of Science Degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha through the Operation Boot Strap Program. He later obtained a Master's Degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California (On Campus).
Harry spent tours of duty in Korea and Tennessee before going to Florida with the Ground Observer Corps. He also served at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi; Pease Air Force Base, New Hampshire; Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico; Loring Air Force Base, Maine; Tuy Hoa, RVN; Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska; Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, Japan; and Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Faye Burkhardt, Warner Robins; sons, Frank Burkhardt (Donna), Warner Robins and Eric Burkhardt (Sandra), Ridgecrest, California; grandchildren, Karl and Jennifer Burkhardt, both of Warner Robins, and Evan Burkhardt, Ridgecrest, California; siblings, Bill Burkhardt, Beaumont, Texas; Fred Burkhardt, Woodbury, New Jersey; Eleanor Jannetti (Tony), Pitman, New Jersey; and Dorothy Pilkauskas (Bob), Voorhees, New Jersey; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, October 12, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2012 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Suite A, Macon, GA 31201.
