Retired U.S. Air Force Veteran, Robert Amos Bentley, passed away at home on the morning of Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born in Lake Orion, MI on January 28, 1938, the son of the late Amos Norton and Grace Marie Bentley.
Growing up in Walled Lake, MI, Robert graduated from Walled Lake High School where he enjoyed playing football. He proudly enlisted in the USAF following graduation and was stationed at Selfridge AFB in Harrison, MI. In December of 1959, Robert met his future wife, Danielle; they were married three weeks later and truly lived happily ever after. He served as an air traffic controller during his military career, and in addition to serving in Harrison, MI, he was stationed in Topeka, KS, Idaho, Michigan, Oklahoma, California, and finally in Warner Robins. Robert fully enjoyed traveling with the military in general, but especially took pleasure in going on TDY’s in Africa, Turkey and Alaska, as well. He retired from the military in 1987 having attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Subsequent to his military career, Robert continued serving his country as an avionics investigator in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base until retiring for good in 2003.
In his younger days, he enjoyed hiking and camping, visiting National Parks, going to the mountains and listening to music. In recent years, he was a Duplicate Bridge Player and loved all sports, especially baseball. Robert’s love for family and his country will always live in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David John Bentley.
