Dennis Michael "Mickey" Powers passed away at Houston Medical Center on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Born on January 18, 1950, in Portland, Oregon, Dennis grew up in Port Reading, New Jersey. Everyone that knew and loved him, called him "Mickey." He enjoyed playing football for Woodbridge High School. An outgoing person, Dennis made many, many friends. He loved hunting, but his passion was racecars. Dennis built and raced several different racecars during his lifetime.
Proudly joining the United States Air Force after high school, he honorably served for seven years during the Vietnam War. After the military, Dennis spent 37 years working for the FAA before retirement. As an Air Traffic Controller, he worked in Italy and in 1989, at the Macon Airport. After retiring, he enjoyed a part-time position at Do It Best Hardware with his friend, Tom Williams. Dennis loved people whole-heartedly, always put others before himself, and was of the Catholic faith.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elizabeth Powers, and one sister.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Nongnut Thim Powers; daughter, JoAnn Powers, of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren, Jaden Earwood and Mason Earwood; as well as five brothers and four sisters.
A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service honoring the life of Dennis will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, with Deacon Jim Hunt officiating in the McCullough Funeral Home chapel. Afterward, Dennis will be laid to rest privately.
