Ssgt. James Emanuel Cox, Us Army (Ret.)

September 17, 1916 — January 14, 2004

Funeral services for SSgt. James E. Cox will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 17 in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service time, from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at the funeral home.

A proud and dedicated soldier, SSgt. James E. Cox, 87, WWII, DAV, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2004, and joined his beloved wife of 53 years, Arra Louise Cox, and brother, Michael Cox. Dad fought in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign and was injured in 1944. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct, Sharpshooter medals, Honorable Service Lapel Button and many other awards. He proudly served and protected his country and his family. Dad gallantly fought his last battle, never giving up, always forging ahead. Born in Roanoke, Virginia on September 17, 1916, Dad had lived in Miami, Florida, for over seventy years and had spent the past ten years in Warner Robins, Georgia. He loved life, his family, his church, his God, and his caregivers – his “ladies”, as he called them. One of Dad’s caregivers, Mary, her years of dedicated service and love, accounted for Dad’s extended life. His other loving caregivers were Carol, Condra, Connie, Crystal, Ruby, Jimmie Teresa (also a daughter), and Willa. Without their dedication and love, Dad would not have been able to live at home for these past nine years. We, his family, are forever grateful.

Dad will be missed by many, but most of all by his family. He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Peters (Fred), Kitty LaFountain (Wayne), Jimmie Teresa Gilchrist (Aubrey); grandchildren, Erik McCammon, Jennifer Coats (Todd), Tammy Buchanan, Deanna Giles (Shawn); great grandchildren, Tyler, Justin, Hali, Shelby, Randall; and a brother, Gus Cox.

Dad would have requested that everyone pray for the safe return of our soldiers in combat.
