Stella Sarandis, a charter member of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Macon, went to her eternal rest on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
The daughter of Greek immigrant parents, Stella was born on August 26, 1926. Her family fell on hard times during the Great Depression and lost their home. Stella moved to France for a few years before returning to the United States. She spent most of her early life in Springfield, Massachusetts before moving to Warner Robins in 1961. She married her late husband, Stephen Sarandis, in 1946 and the couple had three children.
Stella worked tirelessly in the church for many years. She volunteered during the annual Greek Festival in Macon and was a master at fixing Greek cuisine. A dedicated cook, she enjoyed spending her time reading her cookbooks and was proficient in ceramics.
In addition to her parents, Stella was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Stephen Sarandis, and daughters, Stephanie Sutton and Sandra Hoffman.
Those who are left to cherish the memory of this tireless, faithful woman are her dedicated son, Billy Sarandis and his wife, Debbie of California; three grandchildren, Stephen Sarandis, Laurie Moudy and her husband, Josh, and Chris Sutton; a great grandson, Noah Moudy and a great granddaughter, Sydney Moudy, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Trisagion service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Stella’s funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Macon. She will be laid to rest at Magnolia Park Cemetery following the service.
