Early on the morning of Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the age of 94, Susanna Beard joined her Lord and Savior in heaven.
Susanna was born on December 26, 1927, in Columbus, Georgia to the late Fred and Lucy Barnes. Growing up in Macon, she attended Miller High School. In 1951, Susanna married the love of her life, Carl Beard, and they began to start their life and family. A loving and supportive wife, Susanna worked as an office clerk so Carl could finish medical school. Susanna and Carl moved to Warner Robins in 1960 where she assisted him in opening and running the first OB/GYN practice in Warner Robins. She volunteered with the Medical Auxiliary of Warner Robins and was a founding member of the Morning Garden Club. She loved all flowers, but she especially adored the camellias that she and Carl cultivated and grew. One of her greatest passions was ensuring the success of the local AA chapter in the many volunteer roles she served. On the day of her death, she and her family celebrated her special AA birthday and forty years of her sobriety.
Susanna was not only a vivacious, quick-witted and fun lady, she was the epitome of generosity and unconditional love for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Carl Lumpkin Beard, Jr., and brothers, Dr. Thomas G. Barnes and Duell Barnes. Her memory will forever be treasured by her beloved children, J. Duell Beard, Lisa Beard Sabbath (Michael) and Leslie Beard Davis (Mike); grandchildren, Natalie Bracken, Chason Carl Carter, Taylor William Carter, Seth Sabbath, Rachel Gerrity, and Garrett Michael Davis; great grandchildren, Bennett Bracken, Lila Bracken, Gabrielle Lynn Carter, Sephrie Carter, and Wilder Carter and dear friend, Bessie Smith.
Visitation with Susanna’s family will be Tuesday, July 12, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. At the family’s request burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be given in memory of Susanna Beard to Heart of Georgia Hospice at 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
