Sylvia Ann Slocum

April 2, 1939 — May 1, 2021

Sylvia Ann Slocum, 82, went to be with her Lord and savior on May 1, 2021, at her residence in Warner Robins.

For many years, Sylvia was a member of the Sweet Adeline Choir Group. She also sang in the choir at Christ United Methodist Church and spent the last eight years of her life as a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Perry. She was very fond of her church and the friends she made there. She was a dog and bird lover who was passionate about animals and the charities that help animals. Sylvia had the travel bug and was always an enthusiastic travel partner. Additionally, she enjoyed being out on the golf course. She was a beloved mother and grandmother who was proud of her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. Her upbeat personality made people gravitate toward her. Sylvia and her late husband, Carlton, were longtime owners of Giant Foods.

Sylvia was the widow of the late Carlton H. Slocum, to whom she was married for 55 years until his passing in 2013. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Anna Hobbs and sister, Alice Gilleran. She was born on April 2, 1939, in Thompson, Pennsylvania.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Denise Fortenberry (Bill) and Diane Ryan (Pat); brother, Fred Hobbs (Sandra); grandsons, Billy Fortenberry (Brittany) and Brett Fortenberry; great grandsons, James, David, and Charlie Fortenberry; and her beloved poodle, Sandy.

The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at McCullough Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Heritage Baptist Church in Perry.
