Gene Golden, age 61, passed away at home on the evening of Thursday, March 28, 2019.
Born on November 18, 1957 in Perry, Georgia, Gene was a lifelong resident of Middle Georgia. He graduated from Northside High School, where he excelled in baseball and loved playing all sports. Gene worked in construction most of his life. More recently, he was employed as a supervisor at Stalnaker Plastics.
Gene had a huge heart and made friends easily wherever he went. He had a keen ability of making every single person feel special. Friends and family would describe him as affectionate, fun-loving, and beloved. Always seeking to make others feel valued, Gene lovingly called most women “Sunflower.” He felt called to help others get back on their feet after difficult circumstances, and he especially appreciated serving through the Rescue Mission. He also enjoyed coaching children in various sports and loved participating in men’s softball organizations. Gene was a friend to everyone and will be missed by many.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Herman C. “Mutt” and Frances Bates Golden.
His memory will forever be treasured by his sisters, Wanda G. Simmons of Bossier City, Louisiana and Patricia A. Golden of Milledgeville, Georgia; as well as a host of great friends and Northside High School Alumni.
