Ted McGrath, 77, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
Ted was born on August 16, 1946, in Dawson, Georgia to the late John and Bobbie McGrath, who raised him in Albany, Georgia. As a teenager, he was known to have a love for drag racing his Chevy II Nova. He joined the United States Air Force in September of 1967 where he honorably served as a jet engine mechanic for eleven years; he continued to serve in the Reserves where he retired as a carpenter shop superintendent, totaling 26 years of military service and retiring out of Robins Air Force Base. Ted would return to Civil Service as an aircraft mechanic and finished his career after working for 23 years at the Museum of Aviation as the building maintenance supervisor. There from day one, Ted was an integral part of making the museum what it is today. After his retirement, he continued to do carpentry work, working on houses and often times donating his services. He deeply enjoyed being a PaPa once he retired. Volunteering was close to Ted’s heart, and he could be found donating his time to Rehobeth Association for the Appalachian Ministry, and helped to create and build the live Nativity at Oakland Baptist. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, shooting clays, fishing, and being a wonderful provider for his family. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his brothers, Jackie McGrath, and Tim McGrath along with his in-laws, Thomas and Lavara Alday.
His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 54 years, Gloria “Inez” Alday McGrath; son, Jason McGrath (Stacey); granddaughters, Makayla McGrath, and Emma Sullivan; sister, Cynthia Johnson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 10, 2023, from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Ted will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
