Terry Galen Maine

May 4, 1950 — December 4, 2024

Bonaire

Terry Galen Maine, aged 74, left his earthly home peacefully and entered through heaven’s gates early on Wednesday morning, December 4, 2024. He was surrounded by his loved ones and beloved dog, “Roady.” He had a strong Christian Baptist faith and attended Bonaire First Baptist Church growing up and was a member of Southside Baptist Church of Kathleen at the time of his passing.

Terry was born in Dr. Gallemore’s Clinic in Perry, on May 4, 1950. He liked to brag that his baby picture hung in the doctor’s office until it closed. Terry was the fifth child of eight and the youngest son of Sylvester and Florence Ferguson Maine. He and his siblings had a wonderful life growing up with cousins in the country in Bonaire. This is where his love for animals, especially horses, began. He got his first horse as a child and his passion for them continued throughout his life. Terry made sure his children and grandchildren all had horses, taught them how to ride and some even to compete!

Terry was a lifelong resident of Houston County and attended Houston County schools. He graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1968. His first career started in furniture sales and later he became a Sheriff’s Deputy in the first group of deputies with Sheriff Cullen Talton in the 1970s. He was with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office for several years. When Terry left law enforcement, he started a new career as a Pipefitter up until the time of his retirement.

After retirement, Terry began raising horses and started a pony ride service called, “Mane Events.” He loved taking his ponies for birthday parties and other events where children could ride and love on the horses. He continued doing this until his health no longer allowed him to. His last day spent alert was watching his grandbabies riding their ponies and playing with animals.

Terry’s first love was always his family. No matter if they were biological, adopted, or blended, he loved and treated them all the same. He has many children throughout the community that he took under his wing. He also taught them to care for and ride horses as well. They all lovingly called him, “Granddaddy.” Terry had many friends and never met a stranger. Terry would undoubtably do anything for anybody. His family would often say, “he was too big-hearted.” It was not unusual for Terry to bring a stranger home for a meal or give them a place to stay for a while.

Terry had a big booming voice and a deep laugh. He could tell a story, and you never knew if it was true or not! One of his favorite sayings was “I may not be an example of what to do but definitely I’m example of what not to do.” The last few days of Terry’s life were a testament to the love and devotion he, his children, and grandchildren had for each other as they sat vigil by his bedside. Terry will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.

Terry is survived by his loving and devoted partner and wife, Marilyn Pavlovsky Maine; children, Jerry (Tracey) Maine of Fort Valley, Kerry (Frank) Clackum of Zebulon, Sherry (Dean) Short of Demerest, Lee (Morgan) Maine, Stacy Bankston Maine, and Kittery (Nathan) Duffield, all of Bonaire; grandchildren, Megan (Vince) Gozzola and children, Ophelia, Azalea, and Avicii, Madison (James) Crockett, Jake (Kiera) Maine, Jackson Maine, and Peyton (Danielle) Evans and children, Grayden and Hartley, Darrian (Sierra) Short, and Deana (Isaiah) Sanders and children, Katalina and Evaluna, Todd Short, Ramsey and Rowan Maine, Ryker and Brystol Duffield; three bonus children, six bonus grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, through Marilyn; siblings, Jimmy Maine (Peggy) of Warner Robins, Gail Maine Greene (Ronnie), Donna (David) Maine Brown, all of Perry; his only living aunt, Myrtle Ferguson Russell of Bonaire; sisters-in-law, Latha Maine, Peggy Maine, Annie Maine and brother-in-law, Harlow McDaniel, as well as a host of many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
