Thelma Mae O'Hern

March 12, 1928 — December 21, 2024

Bonaire

Thelma Mae O’Hern, 96, entered into rest in the early hours of Saturday, December 21, 2024.

Thelma Gold, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, was born on March 12, 1928, in Lutz, Florida, to the late John H. and Lily Bell Gold. A joyful and easy-going soul, Thelma embraced life’s adventures with an open heart, faithfully following her husband’s military career and their family across the globe.

A true Renaissance woman, Thelma’s talents were as varied as they were impressive. She was a gifted homemaker, known for her skillful hand at sewing — crafting everything from clothing to beautiful tablecloths. Her love for nature and creativity found expression in her extraordinary talent as a self-taught florist, where she both pressed flowers and created stunning floral arrangements that earned her numerous awards.

Her passion for crafting and community was evident in her active membership in the local Gardening Club and Homemaker’s Club, where she shared her knowledge and enthusiasm. She was also an avid cross-stitcher and a lover of music, playing both the harmonica and the dulcimer. In fact, she played in a local band, sharing her musical gifts with others.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church Bonaire, Thelma’s unwavering dedication to her faith was reflected in her service and commitment to her church family over the years.

Thelma’s legacy is one of love, creativity, and devotion — to her family, her community, and the many lives she touched with her warm spirit and generous heart. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Carlton O’Hern, son, Dan Nelson O’Hern, and siblings, Donald Meyer, Mildred Roberts, Earnest Meyer, Dorothy Smith, and Ray Gold.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Karen Chapman and Eddy O’Hern (Martha); grandchildren, Misty M. Bryant, Benjamin W. Chapman, Kirsta O’Hern, Scott O’Hern (Lori), and Shana Boyd (Brian), along with five great-grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, December 27, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Bonaire. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Rodgers officiating. Afterward, Thelma will be laid to rest in Bonaire Cemetery next to her husband, Jerry.
