Thomas Burk

June 22, 1930 — October 19, 2005

Thomas E. Burk, 75, passed away from this life on October 19 in Warner Robbins, Georgia, after a brief illness.
Tom is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy J. Burk; son, Rev. Thomas Burk (Lori); daughter, Timi Sue Matherly (Chris); four grandchildren, Kyla and Elijah Matherly, Joel and Carlye Burk; two brothers, William of Richmond and Donald of Texas; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Ina Burk.
Tom Burk was a 22 ½ year veteran of the New Castle Police Department, serving as Police Chief the last three years of his service. He worked in the Juvenile Division for six years and was awarded a life membership in Parent Teachers Association by the Indiana Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc., for his work with youth. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
After his retirement, he moved to Richmond and worked for 17 years at the Richmond State Hospital in the power plant. He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman in Germany and worked at Chrysler Corp., New Castle, in the machine division prior to his military service.
The Rev. Carl Adams from Michigan will preside over the memorial service. Calling will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond, Ind., with the memorial service beginning at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made to a Hospice program of your choice in memory of Tom.
