Troy J. ''T.J.'' Calhoun, Jr., 82, entered into rest on Thursday, September 29, 2011.
Mr. Calhoun was born on December 7, 1928 in Montgomery County, Georgia. A 1945 graduate of Vidalia High School, he attended Brewton Parker College, and he later earned a Bachelor�s Degree in Business Education from Georgia�s Teachers College. T.J. taught at Lyons High School for two years. With pride and honor, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, the Pete Joyner Sunday School Class, and served on various committees.
T.J. had thirty years of banking experience. In 1959, he began working at Citizens State Bank where he later became Executive Vice President. He graduated from The University of Georgia School of Banking in 1968, and then from the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University in 1970. He retired shortly after Citizens State Bank was assumed by First Atlanta Bank.
T.J.�s various club memberships included: President of Warner Robins Jaycees in 1965, President of Middle Georgia Chapter 13 A.I. in 1970, President of the Warner Robins Noon Optimist in 1971, chairman of Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce in 1975, and chairman of the Warner Robins Housing Authority from 1976-1991. In 1986, T.J. was awarded Citizen of the Year by the Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce.
His parents, Troy J. Calhoun, Sr., and Velma Hamilton Calhoun; and sister, Lucinda Grace Calhoun, preceded him in death. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Mary Lavonne Calhoun, Warner Robins; children, Brenda S. Parker, Warner Robins, Britt S. Calhoun, St. Louis, Missouri, and Brian S. Calhoun, Warner Robins; and grandchildren, Steele, Ashley, Troy, and Sara Calhoun.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Central Baptist Church with entombment following in Magnolia Park Mausoleum. Dr. Owen Bozeman will officiate. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to the Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 1120 Lake Joy Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
