Brian L. Schmidt, 64, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2015 at his home. Born in Mankato, Minnesota in 1950 to Donald Schmidt and the late Jackie G. Schmidt Olstad, Brian was a graduate of Garden City High School and later Middle Georgia Technical College. He was retired from the United States Air Force after tours of duty during both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. After his military career, Brian became an educator and in January 2015 he retired from Central Georgia Technical College where he had been an instructor of Electronics. In addition to his mother, Brian was also preceded in death by his wife, Anita L. (Bailey) Schmidt.
Brian was active in many organizations including the Christian Motorcycle Association, Military Vets Motorcycle Club, Central Georgia Corvette Club, Vietnam Veterans Association, Gold Wingers, and he was a proud Patriot Guard Rider. Additionally, he was a participant in the Heart of Georgia Walk for Emmaus and was a member of Andrews United Methodist Church.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Robin M. Kissock (John), Bloomington, Minnesota; 1ST LT John Schmidt, Fort Riley, Kansas; Brady Schmidt, Manhattan, Kansas; William "Bill" Schmidt, Omaha, Nebraska; Madalynne "Maddy" Blackwell (Aaron), Warner Robins; father, Donald Schmidt, Spokane, Washington; siblings, Bruce Schmidt and Brad Schmidt, both of Mankato, and Beth Paumen (Mike), Lake Christal, Minnesota; parents-in-law, Rick and Rosemary Potenziani, Warner Robins; four grandchildren and a beloved significant other, Ms. Judy Cotton, of Thomaston, Georgia.
A memorial service honoring Brian's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Andrews United Methodist Church in Kathleen.
