Jerry Casper, 77, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Pine Pointe Hospice Inpatient Facility.
Jerry was born on March 1, 1939 in Hoschton, Georgia where he spent his early years growing up. Following grade school, he and his family moved to Bishop where he graduated from Oconee County High School. Shortly after graduation, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force and bravely served his country during the Vietnam War and later retired with the rank of Tech Sergeant. Of the Baptist faith, Jerry enjoyed gardening around his home and was a member of the Wounded Warrior Project Foundation and the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Truman and Clara Mae Wood Casper; and his sister, Bethel Marie Doss.
Jerry leaves his memory behind with his loving wife of 53 years, Inez Casper of Warner Robins; son, Gary Casper of Warner Robins; stepdaughter, Denise Gunnell Mercury (Peter) of Paderborn, Germany; grandchildren, Jason Mercury (Pamela) and Kara Symonds; great-granddaughter, Adrianna Mercury; sisters, Sarah Ashe of Bishop, Georgia and Barbara Morrow of Monroe, Georgia; brother-in-law, Ray Doss of Athens, Georgia; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5th in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in memory of Jerry to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
