Tsgt. Johnnie Darrell Peyton, Usaf (Ret.)

July 16, 1932 — July 25, 2022

Retired USAF Korean War and Vietnam Veteran, Johnnie Darrell Peyton passed away peacefully at Hazel Colson Hospice House on the morning of Monday, July 25, 2022, at the age of 90.

Born and raised in Kentucky, Johnnie was the son of the late Foster and Florence Peyton. He married his true love, Jerri Peyton, on June 21, 1961, and raised their daughter, Rhonda and two stepsons. Johnnie was a true patriot who loved his country which he proudly served for 20 years with the United States Air Force. During his time in the military, he bravely served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Johnnie retired in September of 1972 having attained the rank of Tech Sergeant.

Following his military retirement, Johnnie was eager to become an entrepreneur and established Peyton Television Service. He had a passion for computers and electronics and was handy at repairing anything. In his free time, you could find Johnnie spending time with the family he so dearly loved, doing something outdoors, reading, or spoiling his sweet shih tzu, Charlie. He was also a longtime, faithful member of Sandy Valley Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for a number of years.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Paulin and Sue Jenkins.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Rhonda Peyton Woodard (Bill); two stepsons; grandchildren, Heather Woodard (Drew) and Rebecca Souza (Mike); and great-grandchildren, Gavin Swafford, Hadley Riggin and Adalyn Covington.
