A courageous Vietnam War veteran, Luis Fernando Gallardo-Castaing, 85, joined his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven on Friday, April 2, 2021.
Born to the late Luis M. and Matilde Castaing Gallardo, Luis was born in Puerto Rico. He bravely served in the United States Air Force and retired after 22 years of dedicated service. After his retirement, Luis worked for Blue Bird Corporation. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he taught English as a Second Language (ESL) and volunteered at the Christian Service Center. He was passionate about sports and enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves Baseball and Duke University Basketball. Luis also enjoyed listening to music. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring wife, Elizabeth Cotte Gallardo of Centerville; Edelma Nicolou of Centerville; Elena Peterman (Gregg) of Lexington, South Carolina; grandchildren, Vanessa Bell (Brandon) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Natalie Peterman of Lexington, South Carolina; Elizabeth Brady (Mike) of Marietta; and John, Stephanie, and Belinda Brady, all of Marietta; and siblings, Luis M. and Ivan Gallardo of Puerto Rico.
The Memorial Mass celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Monsignor Fred Nijem officiating. For friends and family unable to attend, the service will be streamed live via the McCullough Funeral Home Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcculloughfuneralhome/live/.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of TSgt. Luis Fernando Gallardo-Castaing, USAF (Ret.) to Sacred Heart Christian Services, 136 Northview Ave., Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
