Tsgt. Timothy "T" Bynum Sr., Usaf (Ret.)

Centenarian Timothy “T” Bynum, Sr., passed into the arms of his heavenly Father on Friday, November 19, 2021.

A long, long, long time ago as a person of color Timothy (“T”) is born from the love of Cora Gorman and Edward Bynum, Sr. in Perry, Georgia under the system of white supremacy (racism). He joins his siblings: James, Elizabeth, Edward Jr., Ethel, Johnny and later Mildred. When he becomes of age his first job is swinging logs at the crate factory on Jernigan Street. At 21, he is drafted into the United States Army/Air Force. He travels the world until his honorable discharge after more than twenty years of service. He establishes himself and becomes a successful entrepreneur continuing his service to people.

In the Book of Job his wealth was obvious because of his large family. In African/Edenic societies large families have always been indicators of great wealth. This measurement of wealth was considered greater than material possessions. Like Job, Timothy loves his large family and encourages them to love one another: Bevelyn, Tim, Kenneth, Sandy, Sibyl, David and Bessie.

He adores Ethel Rountree just like how Prince sings about it in the song, Adore…

In 1927, Timothy upon seeing the light, The Reverend H.S. Cain baptized him, and he lived his life according to Psalms 91:16 – with long life I will satisfy him, and show him my salvation. Timothy’s loyalty to New Hope Baptist Church never wavered.

Our father who art an earthling while on planet Earth is a host of characteristics: jovial, peaceful, soulful, caring, confident, humble, hardworking, goal oriented, a discerning politician, a sportsman, and an engaging storyteller of his life adventures, experiences, and wisdom. He arrives at his grave ripe with many good years 102 and seven months like sheaves of golden grain at harvest. Those of us who loved him will miss him.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Cora Gorman and Edward Bynum, Sr.; wife, Ethel Mae Rountree Bynum; sons, Timothy Bynum, Jr. and Charles Kenneth Bynum; grandson, Aaron Daniel White; siblings: James Bynum, Elizabeth Bynum, Edward Bynum, Jr., Ethel Bynum, Johnny Bynum and Mildred Bynum.

Those left to treasure the memory of their patriarch are his children: Bevelyn Bynum Johnson of New York, Cassandra Rowena Bynum White and Bessie Beth Bynum Bryant of Oklahoma, Sibyl Angela Bynum Williams and David Cecil Bynum of Georgia; brother-in-law, Charles Rountree; and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Jackson Bynum of Georgia.

A loving gratitude to a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and sorted grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 26, 2021 at McCullough Funeral Home. At the family’s request, Timothy’s funeral services will be held privately and he will be laid to rest at Magnolia Park Cemetery South in Bonaire.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in Timothy’s memory to New Hope Baptist Church, 1300 Washington Street, Perry, GA 31069.
