Twyla “Kay” Davis Darnell

Twyla Kay Davis Darnell (age 83) entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 10, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer disease.

Kay was born in Waurika, Oklahoma, on March 23, 1941, to the late Harry Davis and Hazel Moore Davis. She was the sixth of seven children, including two sisters and four brothers.

She married Roger Darnell on August 8, 1959, in the Methodist Church of Ryan, Oklahoma, and they were blessed with over sixty-three loving and dedicated years together. Their lives included many family adventures in Oklahoma, Ohio, Alabama, and finally in Georgia.

Kay was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and active for most of her life in all elements of the church. Kay's life revolved around family, especially the children. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but most of all by the little ones who knew her as “Nana.” A mother holds her children's hands for a short time but their hearts forever.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Darnell; son, Jeffrey Cass Darnell; and her siblings, sisters, Robin McDonald and Prudence Mccann and brothers, C.K. Davis, Harry (Bud) Davis, and George Davis.

Kay is survived by two children, James Darnell (Faye) of Centerville, GA, and Marian Speck (Kevin) of Warner Robins, GA; grandchildren, Holly Rathel (Charles) of Perry, GA, Joshua Detrick (Julia) of Chelsea, AL, Janalee Minor Shi (Andrew), of Jacksonville, FL, Regena Piper (Brad) of Macon, GA, Jimmy Darnell (Brandy) of Warner Robins, GA, Dana Turner (Eric) of Macon, and Amanda Smith (Ryan) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and 22 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a brother, Max Davis (Carolyn) of Little Rock, AR.

A family visitation will be held at McCullough Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Twyla “Kay” Davis Darnell will be laid to rest at a later date in Oklahoma.
