Val Matthews was called home to glory on the morning of Thursday, February 8, 2018. She was 91 years old.
Born in Archer, Florida on September 1, 1926, Val was the daughter of the late Jacob Boyd and Ola Weil Jumpp. Val met the love of her life, Harry, in Germany where they were married and traveled extensively throughout Europe. Val worked over 30 years in Civil Service in support of the Air Force Mission and was a dedicated military spouse, retiring at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia. She also developed a passion for collecting Hummel figurines, European clocks, and a variety of antiques. Val also enjoyed being active outdoors and loved walking.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Udell Jumpp; and two nephews, Jay Matthews and Don Matthews, Jr.
Val leaves her memory behind with her loving husband of 64 years, Harry L. Matthews of Warner Robins; and her nieces and nephews, Beverly Mullis (Cameron) of Jacksonville, Florida, Dale Jumpp (Tricia) of Keystone Heights, Florida, Cathy Marinan (Bob) of Niceville, Florida, and Constance Matthews of Gainesville, Florida.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 11, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Rev. Jim W. “Jimbo” Dominey officiating. Following the service, Valerie will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
Donations may be given in memory of Valerie Matthews to the Andrew United Methodist Church, 2430 GA-127, Kathleen, GA 31047.
