Vann Lanier Smedley, 81, passed away peacefully early on the morning of Wednesday, August 22, 2018.
Mr. Smedley was born on September 11, 1936 in Shawmut, Alabama to the late Homer and Edna Lanier Smedley. He lived most of his life in Bibb County where he retired from Swift Packing Company. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed traveling and especially cruising. He never met a stranger, but his loving family brought the greatest joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his son, Vann Lanier Smedley, Jr. and his sister, Jenny Nobles.
His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring wife of fifty-seven years, Barbara Smedley; his daughter, Donna Smedley McAtee (Robert) of Warner Robins; his grandchildren, Amber Hodges (Dustin) of Lizella, Austin McAtee (Kimberly) of Bonaire, Nicollette Mossman, and Kyle Mossman; his great-grandchildren, Lawson Hodges, Rhett Hodges, and Brooks Lanier McAtee who is expected to arrive in September; and his sister, Nancy Sepe of Beverly Hills, Florida.
Visitation with Mr. Smedley’s family will be Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The graveside service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with Deacon Ralph McAtee officiating. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.
