Vera Blanchard Burns, 90, entered into rest on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.
Vera was born on April 11, 1922 in Tignall, Georgia. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Joseph's Infirmary in Atlanta, Georgia, and she served as an Ensign in the Naval Nurse Corps during World War II. Vera later retired from Houston Medical Center after working eighteen years as an OB-GYN Registered Nurse. A devoted member of First Presbyterian Church, she loved time spent with her family, gardening, reading, and crocheting and quilting. Her husband of sixty-one years, Robert B. Burns; parents, Dewitt Blanchard and Nancy Truitt Blanchard; sister, Jacqueline Blanchard McClure; and brothers, William E. Blanchard, Joseph Carroll Blanchard, and Robert T. Blanchard, preceded her in death.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her adoring sons, Robert E. Burns (Cynthia), Warner Robins and Daniel J. Burns (Brenda), Kennesaw, Georgia; grandchildren, Kimberly Burns, Gina Fonte, Julie Burns, Kaitlin Burns, Jenilee Munn, Robert J. Burns; great-grandchildren, Robbie Burns, Jackson and Logan Fonte, and Adelyn Munn; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, May 18, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Magnolia Park Cemetery. Reverend Paula S. Hoffman will officiate. The family will accept flowers, or donations in her honor may be given to First Presbyterian Church, 1139 Watson Blvd, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
