Verna Grace Stripling Carter

Verna Grace Stripling Carter of Warner Robins, age 86, went to her Heavenly home with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 21, 2021.

She was born February 24, 1935 in Mystic, Georgia to the late Rev. Theodore Franklin Stripling and Era Marie Crowe Stripling. Grace graduated with the class of 1953 from Fitzgerald High School. She spent many years working for Southern Bell before working at Robins Air Force Base as a telephone operator.

A longtime member of Central Baptist Church, Grace was a lady who was devoted to her Lord. She gave her heart to Jesus at the age of 13 and lived for Him all her life. Grace made sure her children knew about Him as well and brought them up in faith. She enjoyed traveling and fellowship with a group affectionately known as the “Circle of Friends.” An avid fan of Southern gospel music, Grace enjoyed going to concerts. She was known for her delicious pound cakes and potato salad. Grace never had a problem making either when she was asked. Most of all, she adored spending time with her family.

Left to cherish Grace’s memory are her daughter, Leigh Gierka (Rick) of Dublin; her son, Jay Carter (Kellie) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Shelley Hathcock (Dave) of Augusta, Chad Gierka (Maresa) of Dublin, Aaron Gierka of Dublin, Jennifer Carter of Warner Robins and Jared Carter of Warner Robins; great grandson, Jackson Hathcock of Augusta; brother, Hansel Stripling of Manchester; sister, Evelyn Walker of Waycross; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who will all miss this dear soul.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021 at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Grace will be laid to rest at 3:00 p.m., Monday, May 24, 2021 at Mystic Baptist Church Cemetery in Ocilla.
